‘This Isn’t About Politics,’ Biden Says Following Hurricane Ida
President Biden addressed the damage caused by Hurricane Ida as it moved across the eastern part of the country and said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency was on the ground to provide assistance to those affected.
We’re reminded that this isn’t about politics. Hurricane Ida didn’t care if you were a Democrat or a Republican, rural or urban, its destruction is everywhere, and it’s a matter of life and death. And we’re all in this together. My message to the people of the Gulf Coast, who I’m going to visit tomorrow: We are here for you. And we’re making sure the response and recovery is equitable, so that those hit hardest get the resources they need and are not left behind. We’re seeing the same story of devastation and heroism across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as well. And I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the first responders, and everyone who has been working through the night, and well into the morning to save lives and get power back. There’s a lot of damage, and I made clear to the governors that my team at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, is on the ground and ready to provide all the assistance that’s needed.
